Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal grounds

Taj Mahal was completed in 1648 as a monument to the love that Shah Jehan (5th Mughal Emperor) had for his dear wife Mumtaz Mahal (also known as Arjumand Banu). It is the finest example of a funerary mosque known.

It was built on the Yamuna river near the city of Agra. The Taj Mahal complex consists of one central building, which contains the burial crypt of Mumtaz Mahal, and three other major buildings. The three additional major buildings that most people don't recognize as part of the Taj Mahal complex include the entrance building, the mosque, and the guesthouse.

There is a pool known as the Celestial Pool of Abundance located in the middle of the Garden of Paradise. Finally, there are eight watchtowers along the side perimeter wall of the Taj Mahal complex. There are several other palatial buildings; some of which have been converted into a museums.
