Kaua'i Hawaii is known as the garden island because of the lush tropical forests
on much of the island. It is the northernmost island and has the coolest temperatures
of all the islands. It also has the highest rainfall of all the Hawaiian islands.
With an average rainfall of 400 inches (1016 cm.) a year, Mt. Waialeale has
more rainfall than anywhere else in the world. The picture on the left is Wailua
Falls and on the right is Allerton Garden.
Kaua'i is the oldest of the large islands in the Hawaiian chain. Due to its
age, weathering effect has shaped much of the island into majestic and rugged
vistas. On the left is the canyon created by Hoinakaunalehua Stream. Waimea
canyon (Pictures on the right and bottom of the page) is known as the "Grand
Canyon" of Hawaii. It is approximately 10 miles (16 km.) long and 3600
ft. (1097 m.) deep at its deepest point.
