Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon from helecopter

The Grand Canyon is just one of the many natural wonders of Arizona. It was formed in two distinct stages. First, layers of rock were deposited over the region during the Paleozoic Era (550 - 250 million years ago) with some evidence of Precambrian rocks as old as 2,000 million years old found at the bottom of the canyon.

The second stage started about five to six million years ago when the Colorado river started to carve a trench through the layers of rock. The unique combination of the climate and terrain combined to form violent floods that carried away large quantities of rock. The density and characteristics of each layer caused this erosion to proceed at different rates at each of the layers.

We have three vantage points of the Grand Canyon. The top pictures were taken from a helicopter above the canyon. The middle pictures were taken from the rim of the canyon. The bottom pictures were taken from the Colorado river at the bottom of the Canyon.
