Mt. Khumbila

The photo on the right is Ama Dablam (22,494 ft. or 6856 m.) first climbed in 1961 by Mike Gill, Barry Bishop, Mike Ward, and Wally Romanes. The photo on the left is Mt. Khumbila as seen from the airstrip.

Mt. Everest and Mt. Nuptse

Mt. Everest and the Himalayan mountain range are a result of the geological phenomena of the Indian plate crashing into and upheaving the Eurasian plate. The earth's crust at this location is twice as thick as anywhere else on the planet. Because the Indian plate is still moving at a pace of approximately 21 in. (54 cm.) per year, the height of the Himalayan range is still changing.

Airstrip at Mt. Khumbila

Syangboche Airstrip is the highest airstrip in the world at 12,400 ft. (3790 m.). This is an unusual airstrip because at the end if the runway, there is a steep cliff.

The airstrip provides an excellent view of Mt. Khumbila.
