Pharaonic Egypt

The pyramids of Giza were built by three successive generations of the 4th dynasty, Cheops built the Khufu pyramid around 2566BC and it stood 145m (475ft.) tall when built. Chephren, Khufu's son, built the Khafre pyramid around 2532 BC and it stood 136m (446ft.) tall when built. This pyramid still retains the original limestone covering near the top. Finally, Mycerinus built the Menkaure pyramid. Its exact competition date is unknown but may be around 2500 BC. It is the smallest of the Giza pyramids at 62m (203ft.) Each of these pyramids were burial chambers for the Pharos and contain long corridors and chambers where t he pharos were put to rest.

The temple complex at Karnack was originally known as "Ipet-Osut" or "The Most Perfect of Places." Karnack provided a place to worship the ancient egyptian deity of Amon, Mut, and Khons also known as the Theban triad of gods. It was built over a period of 1500 years with just about every major dynasty contributing or changing something.

Construction on the foundations started during the 12th dynasty reign of Sesostris and ended with the Potolomics of the Roman era. Many of the main structures were built during the 18, 19, and 20th dynasties pharaohs. This would have been around the years of 1570 and 1090 BC.
